I want to start by saying how grateful I am to be surrounded
by friends and family that have been there to support me throughout my journey!
This trip to Kenya wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for God opening the
doors for me to go, but also for all of your generous hearts.
Papa God knows and wants to fulfill every one of our heart’s
desires, but we also have to understand this, know it, and put it into
practice: knowledge, understanding and wisdom- 3 key words for this trip. My
journey to Meru was very long and exhausting and I knew this from the beginning
when I started to plan my itinerary there. My trip included a 10 hour flight to
London, a 4 hour delay in London, then a 2 hour flight to Amsterdam, an 8 hour
flight to Nairobi, and a 4 ½ hour car ride from Nairobi to Meru. It was going
to be a very long 3-day trip, but in my head I just kept saying “this is worth
it”! Our original plan was supposed to start working right after we would
arrive to Meru, but little did I know, God had already another plan in store.
If you know me, I am a person that really values rest, and if I don’t get
enough rest, I don’t function properly. When we arrived to Nairobi, I come to
find out that the other half of our team had missed their flights as we were
all supposed to arrive around the same time, and because we needed to ride
together to get to Meru, we had to wait 12 hours for them to arrive so we could
get to Meru in one van. Although this may have seemed even more stressful after
a long journey, God gave us this opportunity to take some time to rest before
the exciting experiences we were going to encounter throughout the trip. The
team I was with decided to rent a room for the day to get some sleep, and this
is exactly what we did. We named the price for the room, and God provided it
for us!
After taking a well-deserved nap, the team and I decided to
go downtown to look for a place to eat. On our way to the restaurant, we passed
by a woman who could not walk with her feet because she was disabled (her feet
were crossed permanently) so she had to use her hands to walk. As I passed her,
I felt the Holy Spirit tugging my heart and saying “stop and pray for her”, so
I did. At first I was nervous because this woman did not speak a word of
English and I began to doubt if it really was the Holy Spirit asking me to stop
for her, but I heard Him again and He told me to not worry about not speaking
Swahili (this is the main language in Kenya) because her spirit was going to understand.
I used my hand motions well enough for her to understand and give me permission
to pray for her so I proceeded to do so. My prayer was very simple and short,
but I commanded her legs to go back to normal so that she could walk again.
Nothing happened and I was disappointed, but I blessed her and kept walking.
Later that day, I fell asleep again and had a dream where I saw this woman get
up and walk, and she had a huge smile on her face as she rose from the group to
stand on her two feet!! Then I heard the Lord tell me that she was going to
walk again!! I learned from this experience that sometimes we are not going to
see miracles happen right away or at all, but we need to continue to praise Him
for who He is because He knows and His time is always perfect. Things may not
go the way we want them, but this is because He has something better ahead of
us so we need to just trust in Him at all times.
